Light grey cloth-covered boards with black lettering, with photographic endpapers, in Illustrated jacket with protective mylar cover, in brown stapled cardboard slipcase. Folio; 210pp. Text in French. With the (2) original lithographs created by the artist for this edition, and numerous photographs, and b&w and color plates throughout.

Additionally, this copy is signed by the artist in blue ink and dated 1964 on the lithograph statement at the front, with an original drawing included on the same page. Included in the lot is a copy of a letter from 1982 on the letterhead of Jacques Matarasso, a bookseller in Nice, stating that Chagall's daughter authenticated the drawing: "Mais je vous donne toute de suite la bonne nouvelle: le dessin est parfaitement authentique et Ida Chagall l'a trouvé 'très beau,' sans aucune contestation possible." ("I'll give you the good news right away: the drawing is perfectly authentic and Ida Chagall found it 'perfectly beautiful' without any dispute possible.") Retains documents.

This book explores the twelve stained glass windows that Chagall designed for the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center Synagogue in Jerusalem.

Boards with head and tail lightly rubbed, small stains on fore-edge; endpapers and preliminaries with scattered light foxing, occasional offsetting and small marks/scuffs; jacket with light offsetting to interior, edgewear, with head and tail of spine chipped; slipcase scuffed and stained with small dents, edgewear, and tears; very good in very good jacket.
