Greg Decker was born in Texas but was raised in the African Congo. He later received a BFA from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, and an MFA at the New York Academy of Art. He has also had two fellowships at The MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire, and one at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Sweet Briar, Virginia. He studied at the Art Students League in New York and there was much influenced by Frank Porcu. Decker has taught in New York at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim, and the Metropolitan Museum. He later moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and Asheville, North Carolina, where he taught workshops in painting, and during which time he began sculpting, produced etchings and woodcuts. He currently resides and works in Nashville.
